Friends call me Salvo. I am a full professor of mathematics at the School of Mathematical Sciences of Hebei Normal University (HebNU), where I have been since February 2019.
A recurring theme in my research is the interplay between arithmetic combinatorics and the structural properties of algebraic objects, such as semigroups and rings. I am particularly interested in the study of power semigroups and factorizations (broadly understood).
Before joining HebNU, I was a visiting professor at the Center for Combinatorics, Nankai University (Tianjin, China); a Lise Meitner fellow and lecturer at the Dept. of Mathematics and Scientific Computing, University of Graz (Austria); a postdoc at the Centre de Mathématiques Laurent Schwartz, École Polytechnique (Palaiseau, France); a research associate at Texas A&M University at Qatar (Doha, Qatar); and a Marie Curie Fellow at the Laboratoire Jacques-Louis Lions, Sorbonne University (Paris, France).
I have been co-organizing the Open Seminar since 2019 (details here) and was one of the organizers of the first international workshop on power semigroups in September 2025 (details here).
